Shoot!

I totally missed class today! My daughters car broke down and I spaced out as to my commitments for this afternoon!

Joining groups

I tend to prefer to go places where there isn't anyone else. I tend to do that in real life and I guess it isn't much different in Second Life. However, I did go to a Christian island and explored. While there I happened upon a prayer meeting and actually sat in on it. It was interesting seeing how everyone interacted, some obviously had "known" each other either FL or SL for sometime. I did join this group as it seemed like a safe place to hang out and get to know other people. I might even make some friends.
They have events such as water skiing and dance contests which will be interesting to try also. LOL, I can just imagine what my avatar will do while trying to ski since she has such fun trying to fly. I did try some of the dancing and had a hard time getting the "turn off" to hold as I kept walking into areas that started her dancing again. Umm, she needs work on her dance steps...

Playing with shape

I had fun today playing with different skins and tattoos and clothes that I found at different places in SL. I want to play more with her as she isn't exactly what I want yet, but she is getting there.

I can see why people are willing to spend money on things like skin and hair. Even though I don't want to show too much skin, I want what does show to look good!

My blog

I know the class is about teaching and Second life, and I am looking at those opportunities, but my blog is going to be about my own experiences and thoughts, probably not related to education. Though I can certainly see how useful this could be for almost all ages of education. (teachers could show younger students things in the classroom even though they couldn't access it on their own)
I can also see how it could be useful for Bread Loaf and might work my final project around that.

Initial experience

My first foray into Second Life was about a year ago. I was using my daughter's computer and
as it was slow the lag was extreme. I couldn't get past the opening where I was to create my avatar.

At the start of this class I was on a faster computer, but it still took me some time to figure out how to create my avatar to my liking. I would still like to work on her more but need the time.

Second Life is very much like my son's games. Not so much like the computer games I am used to. I seem to have an affinity for getting stuck in trees. I do like exploring places I have been in real life such as Naples.
